Meaning and History

Austin Peay Governors Logo History

Although the old logo of the sports division was memorable, it didn’t meet modern requirements. Therefore, in 1992, it was decided to introduce a new version – with a graphic monogram formed from the name Austin Peay. The letters “A” (lowercase) and “P” (uppercase) are geometrically proportionate, resulting in the leg of one symbol smoothly transitioning into the other. This design technique lends charm to the emblem and makes it well-recognized. This is aided by the crimson color on a white background.

This version lasted until 2014, when the current logo was created. It features a mustached governor (the university athletes’ nickname) in a strict business suit. The lapels of the jacket are red. The white stand-up collar is fastened with an elegant black tie. The gentleman also wears a tall hat with a red ribbon and pince-nez. The gaze from under the brows is severe, strict, and menacing.
